WEEKEND LINKS

photo 1 copy

Happy weekend! and holy hell did I need it to come faster than it did. This was one of those weeks were you didn’t really have time to breathe. A bubble bath? Ch’yeah right. Catching up on your favorite blogs? Not happening. I had to seriously justify even time to take Jasper for a walk that lasted longer than five minutes. Sometimes, life is hard. But then a Friday pokes around the corner and you realize you have the weekend free from work – so you gear up to spend it with friends coming over for a dinner party (so mature of us, right? You’ve never been to one of our dinner parties) followed by family, family, family to celebrate the one mean who means the most to me and my sisters and mother. Yay Father’s Day! Til then, I’ve left you with some things to check out while you’re loungin’ …. Enjoy!

+ I was on a major documentary kick this past week (and I plan to keep it that way – they are the best thing to watch while editing or answering emails!) this one and this one were incredible. (footnote: sobbed during the second one)

+ This shop and blog. You have to check it out. I have a little lady crush on Chelsea and her prints grace our new home in almost every corner. (I order her cards for friends and family, too)

+ We recently just added this to our home (it was one of the gifts from me to Trent for our anniversary) and it’s pretty incredible. The sound is great, and it makes for less TV. Bonus! Currently listening to this, this and this on vinyl.

+ Excuse me? WTF. #firstworldproblems

+ I’m thinking this will happen now that we’re going with some major color in our bedroom.

+ You know each weekend I have to add an app in here. This one isn’t only visually stimulating (so pretty!) but it’s fun.

+ We had dinner here recently and it was to die for. Mussles were out of this world. Oh! and their sauteed kale.

+ I clicked on this article earlier and was super pumped to read their creative suggestions. But really? Hello, common sense.

+ Really, really digging this, this and this. Oh! and this. But NOT this. Go away.

+ Lets end on a positive note, shall we? If you live in Chicago, go here for sushi and the most amazing smoothie you’ll have in all of your life. You’re welcome! (*footnote for my fellow vegans – they have an amazing vegan roll and all of their smoothies are 100% dairy free! Woo!)

A LITTLE GLIMPSE

I thought it might be fun to track some of the progress we’re making around here in our new home. We will be here for the next two years, so we’re really taking a lot of pride in the decisions that we’re making to make it feel as homey and as “us” as possible. So far, so great. We’re loving every minute. While there is still quite a bit to do (the bedroom, most of all) we’ve gotten a few little areas set up and ready to roll. First up, our front entry way. Although, not pictured is one of our new house plants that lives on the white round table, and this Oh My Deer watercolor type print that’s framed and sitting pretty on the hutch. LIVING A NEW NORMAL

This week has been difficult to say the least. I hate starting a post out like that, but as you all know, this blog to me is a diary of sorts. Somewhere to collect my thoughts and push them out without any reservation. It helps to calm me, to work through the challenges that come my way, and as I’ve mentioned before, if my words and thoughts on certain subjects can lend even just a bit of comfort or relief to any of you readers, then all the better. So here we go. Click to read more

A LUNCH DATE

This afternoon was a hot one. Chicago humidity is no joke- and if you’ve never had the privilege of feeling it for yourself, I say congratulations and stay as far away from it for as long as you can. I loathe it. But now and again you’d get a gust of a cool breeze that would psych you out for a good 45 seconds, then onto the hot sun and horrid humidity we find ourselves. Everyone breathing a little bit harder, reminding us that we’ve GOT to start committing to that damn gym we pay for (eh em, I’ve been doing *awesome* at this by the way)

It was a sweet interruption from said monstrous heat when I saw a handsome tall blonde making his way towards me in his fancy law employee getup. We decided to have lunch together down by his work, and although I was crabby from all of the walking I had just did along with 20,000 other people (my mom says I’m dramatic – thoughts on this?), the second we interlocked hands, I felt better. We ventured over to the new (dare I call it fast food?) place called GRK. Set up almost identically to Chipotle, this place takes a stab at Greek food, and if you ask me, they nailed it. I had the handheld pita with falafel, of course. Paired with tomatoes, cucumbers and onion. It was out of this world good and I will for sure go back again. To channel my nostalgia, we also shared a side of rice pudding. For so long, I thought this to be a Swedish delicacy, but Trent said that he wasn’t sure any country had really “claimed” the treat. Do any of you know about this? I’m curious. I honestly thought that every Christmas, our rice pudding was a way of toasting to our Swedish heritage. Woops!

We finished up pretty early and Trent still had some time to kill before he had to be back in the office, so we ventured over to the local Farmers Market (one of many) to see what goods they had. It looked to me like a morning sweep had come through and handled everything before we could have a good look, but we still ended up with some fresh garden tomato soup and a bundle of asparagus. Oh, and of course a little Farmers Market PDA :)
